Maty came to us about a month ago, he was found on the street by an old, poor man; he seemed to have had an accident of some sort, because he couldn't walk properly on his hind legs and his tail appeared to be broken. Maty was very scared and in pain, so he got antibiotics and anti inflammatory shots, hoping his motion issues were only temporary.
He was brought back for a checkup and we were happy to see him walking better, but his tail was definitely broken and it was causing him problems, showing signs of sores (because Maty was dragging it on the floor behind him). Moreover, he seemed to have some incontinence issues and because of all this, his rear back area was very sore, causing him huge distress.
SUST Orphan Animal Hospital Bucharest decided to help at once and this week Maty's tail was amputated and he was also neutered.
Our team is now trying to gain his confidence and treating his awful sores. We are sad to see that Maty is so traumatized that he doesn't even want to eat during the day; we imagine his ordeal was one awful enough to shake even the bravest of us, but we are determined to show him that people can love him for what he is, a sweet, gentle boy. Maty's case is one about courage, but also one that reminds us that while we are trying to do more and more mass spay/neuter events, we are professionals who need to treat each case with patience, compassion and regard, because animals are fragile individuals, sentient beings who need kindness and attention.
